Equality and Power in Civics and Histories
(EPiC Histories)
The National Council for History Education and the Michigan Council for History Education are pleased to welcome Michigan educators to the Equality and Power in Civics and History Program (EPiC Histories). EPiC Histories will provide educators with the opportunity to participate in 90+ HOURS of American History and social studies-specific professional development during the 2024-2025 academic year. Educators, administrators, and education faculty who work with students in Grades 3-12 are welcome to apply!
EPIC Histories’ professional learning activities will immerse teachers in discipline-specific literacy practices through a series of webinars, excursions to historic places, and in-person seminars. Participants will engage in an examination of broadening narratives and discuss methods for incorporating multiple perspectives into their classroom practices.
This opportunity is funded through a U.S. Department of Education American History and Civics — National Activities grant.
Each EPiC participant will receive:
- Targeted professional development sessions focused on history, geography, and civics
- SCECHs and stipends for all sessions and learning excursions
- Site-based professional development sessions at cultural institutions across Wayne County
- Free resources for all participants, including books, curricula, online resources, and more
- The opportunity to attend a summer learning excursion in New York City (June 2025)
- Complimentary membership in the National Council for History Education
In addition to these events, we will also schedule optional bonus events throughout the year. These will be opportunities to earn extra SCECHs/stipends, or a chance to make up any hours you might miss. Participants are expected to attend at least 65 hours of programs between October 2024-August 2025 to remain in good standing.
