Engaging Dialogue through Global Encounters

Project EDGE (Engaging Dialogue through Global Encounters ) supports innovative professional development in American History, Civics and Government, and Geography for teachers in grades K-12 in Broward County Public Schools in the State of Florida.

EDGE will provide professional development for 80 teacher participants for a period of three years. The primary lens of instruction will explore the role of the United States on the global stage. EDGE seeks to promote innovation, historical inquiry and hand-on engagement in civic life while providing teachers with ongoing pedagogical and content support throughout the duration of the grant and beyond.

Project EDGE is funded by a U.S. Department of Education American History and Civics — National Activities grant.

Each EDGE Participant will receive:
Targeted professional development sessions focused on history, geography, and civics
Stipends for all sessions and learning excursions
Site-based professional development sessions at cultural institutions in Florida and beyond.
Free resources including books, curricula, online resources, and more
Summer learning experiences at historic locations in the United States
Complimentary membership in the National Council for History Education

An estimated 80 hours of professional development will be offered in Year One and up to 100 hours in the following years. Participants must make at least 80% of those hours to remain active in the grant. This includes a combination of independent reading time, asynchronous coursework and synchronous events both online and in person.
