Brine & Blood: Gamifying History Education Using Digital Archives

In this virtual Professional Development Institute for history educators, ten 9th-12th grade and community college teachers will explore the complex, evolving process of emancipation during the Civil War and Reconstruction. Participants will deepen their content knowledge, gain new teaching strategies, and collaborate with fellow educators. Using the Library of Congress and the Civil War and Reconstruction Governors of Mississippi extensive digital collections of thousands of Civil War and Reconstruction-era primary sources, participants will dive into the lived experiences, debates, and challenges surrounding wartime and postwar emancipation.
