Amplifying Civil Rights Education

Project ACRE (Amplifying Civil Rights Education) supports innovative professional development in American History, Civics and Government, and Geography for 3rd -8th grade teachers in St. Louis Public Schools and the School District of University City.

ACRE will provide professional development for 50 teacher participants for a period of three years. The primary lens of instruction will be the pendulum of civil rights: How have people on this land – Missouri and the United States – removed, retained, and restored civil rights for themselves and others? This professional learning will support all participants as they consider how teaching diverse histories with discipline specific content literacy supports student engagement in civic life.

Project ACRE is funded by a U.S. Department of Education American History and Civics — National Activities grant.

Each ACRE Participant will receive:
Targeted professional development sessions focused on history, geography, and civics
Stipends for all sessions and learning excursions
Site-based professional development sessions at cultural institutions in St. Louis and beyond.
Free resources including books, curricula, online resources, and more
Summer learning experiences at historic locations in the U.S.
Complimentary membership in the National Council for History Education
